Application of PVP in eye makeup (eye black, gel eyeliner): film bonding and anti smudge auxiliaries

Eye black and gel eyeliner are the core categories of eye makeup. The pain points of the industry are mainly halo dye, slag, eyelash caking and eyeliner displacement. Polyvinylpyrrolidone PVP, depending on its excellent film-forming property and pigment adhesion, acts as a binder, film-forming agent and dispersion stabilizer in eye makeup, and is suitable for eye black, water-based gel eyeliner and other formulations.

1、 Core mechanism of action

1. Bonding and film forming mechanism: PVP forms a flexible film after drying, firmly bonding carbon black and toner to the surface of eyelash fiber or eyelid skin, improving adhesion, reducing eye black scurf and eyeliner smudge displacement.

2. Pigment dispersion mechanism: Disperse eye pigments such as carbon black to prevent aggregation and clumping of pigments, ensuring a delicate paste and smooth coating.

Flexible adjustment mechanism: The film is soft and not brittle, avoiding stiff and knotted eyelashes after brushing, and maintaining the natural curling shape of eyelashes.

2、 Typical Applications and Process Control

1. Waterproof eye black: add 1.5 3.0% PVP K60 to improve film forming adhesion, waterproof and sweat resistant, curl eyelashes and reduce dross. Process key points: PVP, oil, and wax are heated at 70-78 ℃ to fully melt and disperse, and the color powder is thoroughly ground to ensure that the paste is particle free.

2. Waterborne gel eyeliner: add 0.5 1.5% PVP K30 to adjust the viscosity of the gel. The toner disperses stably, the lines are smooth, and the film is formed after drying to reduce the fold and smudge of the eyelid. Process key points: Dissolve PVP in a mixture of water and ethanol, stir until completely transparent, then add color paste for homogenization and dispersion to avoid bubbles.

3. Slim eye black: add 1.0 2.0% PVP K40 to assist fiber bonding, improve the slim effect, make the film soft, and prevent lashes from caking.

3、 Advantages and safety features

PVP film is flexible and does not form a brittle, hard, or easily cracked film layer; Eye contact is safe, non irritating, and meets the safety standards for eye cosmetics; Water soluble formula products can easily remove makeup with warm water without residue. Compared to traditional polymer film-forming agents, it balances bonding strength and skin softness.
